Bhakt Prahlad - Part 1 - Birth

Maharishi Kashyap was a great Hindu sage and a spiritual leader. His wife, Dakshputri Diti gave birth to two sons - Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksh. Both the brothers carried great love for one another. Not only this but they both were boundlessly mighty, strong and were extremely self confident. Together, they defeated the demigods and were successful in acquiring heaven.

Once, the younger brother, Hiranyaksh captured the earth and hid it in hell. This caused Lord Vishnu to take birth as a Boar and eventually kill Hiranyaksh to save and rescue the earth. Saddened by his beloved brother’s death, Hiranyakashipu ordered his monsters to cause atrocity to the kingdom subjects. While he went to Mount Mahendranchal. To avenge the killing of his brother by Lord Vishnu, he started doing severe penance to Lord Brahma. On the other hand, seeing the kingdom of monsters without a king, the demigods attacked them. The monsters were defeated in this war and fled to the lower world or hell. Soon, the king of demigods - Devraj Indra - entered Hiranyakashipu’s palace and made his wife Kayadhu a prisoner. Kayadhu was pregnant at that time, so Indra took her along and started going towards Amaravati. On his way there, he met sage Devarshi Narad.

Narad ji asked - “Devraj! where are you taking her?”

Indra said - “Devarshi! There is a part of Hiranyakashipu in her womb. Hence, I will kill the baby in her womb and then let her go. ”

Hearing this, Narad ji said - “Devraj! There is a great devotee of God in her womb, whom to kill is beyond your power, so let her go.”

Following Narad ji’s words, Indra left Kayadhu and went to Amaravati.

Narad ji then brought Kayadhu to his hermitage and said to her - “Daughter! You stay here comfortably until your husband returns after completing his penance.”

Taking advantage of the beautiful discourses of Narad ji, Kayadhu started living happily in that holy hermitage, which had a deep impact on the child growing in the womb. In due course of time, Kayadhu gave birth to a son who was named Prahlad.

Here Hiranyakashipu’s penance was finally completed and he returned to his kingdom capital after attaining the desired boon from Brahmaji.

After some time, Kayadhu also came to the palace from Narad ji’s hermitage with Prahlad.
